Watershed Arts Practice

Watershed Workshops

Satellite Arts are now based at Watershed Workshops in Slaithwaite, West Yorkshire. We also belong to Watershed Arts Practice a new organisation which umbrellas funding for Satellite Arts, Impossible Theatre and Shabang Theatre Adventures, the three arts groups resident at Watershed. Each organisation has their own office space at the premises and we all share storage, equipment and studio spaces. There are also developmental projects that all the groups work on together alongside collectively managing the everyday running of The Watershed.

Sing Global

We are now in the final stage of this Youth Music ‘Vocalise’ project. Over the last year we have run weekly lunchtime workshops for 50 year 9,10 & 11 students at Colne Valley Specialist Arts College. In addition we have organised special Sunday Singing workshops at The Watershed where we can work more intensively on songs.

We have had 2 guest leaders at the Sunday session so far, Tyndale Thomas and Jenny Goodman, and we are looking forward to sessions by Gitika Partington and Amy Bebbington over the next few months. There are now two groups, the Sing Global choir and EcCo a smaller group of students who attend additional sessions. The groups perform in a number of community contexts.

We are about to start a series of singing workshops for year 7 & 8 students at Royds Hall High School, in Paddock Huddersfield.

Slaithwaite Moonraking 2008 on BBC 1 TV

Slaithwaite Moonraking Festival 2008 was featured on BBC TV programme 'Countryfile'. The theme of Lanterns and Legends also included a re-enactment of a large lantern cow jumping over the Moon with wonderful fireworks from Paboom. Visiting storytellers Taffy Thomas MBE, Mike Forbes, and Rachel Rose-Reid (young storyteller of the year) performed during the festival week in a variety of venues around the village. Orbit CD of Songs and Stories

Following on from the success of our Tale Traders shows we have been recording a CD of Songs and Stories called 'Orbit' which will include audio versions of the stories told in Tale Traders with music and sound effects. We have been working with TV and radio producer Janet Hampson. The CD will be available in the summer from this website and at Satellite Arts performances and workshops.
